JOB LISTINGS

Purpose:
To orient new students to North Carolina Wesleyan College and the Rocky Mount community by providing a weekend of relationship building, social, and academic preparation activities.

Goals:
• To make the transition from high school to college easier by educating students on the differences of the environments, and informing them of the expected behaviors of a college student.
• To familiarize students with the resources available at North Carolina Wesleyan College.
• To introduce the students to the resources and activities available in the Rocky Mount community.
• To provide activities to promote the development of the skills essential for a successful college career.
• To provide increased exposure to and interaction with staff, faculty and other students.

Scheduled Activities:
• New Student Tradition – the class of 2012 will begin a tradition that will continue on at NCWC.
• Parent Orientation
• PLAYFAIR – a teambuilding experience and a way for new students to meet each other. “PLAYFAIR is a powerful program for campus unity and school spirit.”
• Opening Convocation & Dedication of the Class of 2012 – words of welcome from college President; VP – Dean of Academic Affairs; VP- Dean of Student Affairs, and others
• English Placement Exam – will be used to schedule students for English class.
• President’s Dinner
• College Scenario/Skits – “Real Life” college situations presented through drama by the PALs and PEER Educators. Situations will be discussed in groups.
• Student Panel – upperclassmen providing “Words of Wisdom” to new students.
• Community Tour – Into the streets of Rocky Mount - giving the students an opportunity to find out more about their home for the next four years; volunteer opportunities; cultural opportunities.
• Registration/Schedule Adjustment –
• College 101 Meeting/Activities – Meeting College 101 instructors ; course expectations; Passport explanation
• Campus Services Panel – find out more about the services of NCWC: Bookstore; IS; Student Success Center; Student Affairs; and others
• Worship Service- optional
