Index Server has a comprehensive search syntax.
All queries ignore upper/lowercase.
Some useful options (see examples below):
- Phrase: Multiple words are normally treated as an exact phrase (use
and between words to avoid this). To be sure, in
complex queries, phrases to keep together should be quoted.
- Wildcard: use the * to match any characters.
- Stem: use ** to match words with the same stem.
- Boolean: use any of And Or Not Near
(abbreviated & | ! ~).
- Stop Words: a, an, and, as, and
other common words are ignored.
- Parentheses can make search order and grouping explicit.
- Use a free-text query to return search combinations for a longer
phrase. To force a free-text query, start the query with $contents
