Michael Brantley – Visiting Instructor of English
M.F.A. in Creative Writing: Queens University
M.A. in English: East Carolina University
B.S. in Communications: Barton College
Mr. Michael K. Brantley returns to his home of Nash County to join North Carolina Wesleyan College as a visiting instructor of English. Growing up in the area, he recalls coming to Wesleyan’s campus when he was younger. “I actually remember a neighbor taking me to campus to use the library when I was in middle school,” he said
Brantley brings a range of experience to our campus, having worked as a columnist, public relations specialist and independent photographer whose work has been used throughout the United States and as far away as South Korea.
In addition, he enjoys working as a freelance writer. In October of 2011, Brantley began a literary journal titled WTF: What The Fiction that highlights nonfiction, fiction, and poetry submissions. Look for his newest publication this year, titled The First Day, “Homecoming,” a work of creative nonfiction. He is now beginning his second project, which is based on the local area.
Brantley is excited to be at Wesleyan in the fall of 2014. “I look forward to engaging with the students, making them better writers and improving their skills,” he said. “I want to help them realize writing is a process, not something to be intimidated by.”
Outside the literary world, Brantley coaches youth sports and plays the banjo. Along with reading and writing, he is also interested in history.
North Carolina Wesleyan welcomes Mr. Brantley and extends our warmest wishes upon his arrival.
