Rocky Mount, N.C.–The 2014 USA South Spring Sports Festival is set to get underway on Thursday, April 10th, and for the second straight year, the City of Rocky Mount is serving as host. Beginning with Thursday’s opening ceremony at 3:00 p.m., the weekend is sure to be exciting as the league’s 13 members travel to Rocky Mount to showcase their baseball, softball, tennis, lacrosse, and golf talents.

Wesleyan will be competing in four sports: baseball, softball, men’s tennis and golf. Please find detailed information for each of these sports below.
BASEBALL: The sport of baseball does not include a tournament, but regular season contests will still take place at the festival from Thursday, April 10th through Sunday, April 13th and will split time between Fleming Stadium in Wilson, Wesleyan’s Bauer Field in Rocky Mount, and Five County Stadium in Zebulon. A three-game series featuring all ten USA South teams will take place during the weekend, with N.C. Wesleyan taking on Maryville College. The Bishops and Scots will kick things off at Fleming Stadium on Thursday at noon, and the same two teams will again face off at Fleming on Friday at 2:30 p.m. NCWC and MVC wrap up their series on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at Five County Stadium.
SOFTBALL: At the Rocky Mount Sports Complex, the softball tournament will begin on Friday, April 11th. The tournament is a double-elimination, three-day event which includes the top-eight conference teams. The Battling Bishops will enter the tournament as the league’s 7th-seed and will take on 2nd-seeded Huntingdon College in the opening round on Friday at 11:00 a.m.
MEN’S TENNIS: The men’s tennis tournament will take place at the Slick Family Foundation Tennis Center on the campus of N.C. Wesleyan on Friday, April 11th, and continue through Sunday, April 13th. The top-eight teams will square off for the championships, including our top-seeded Bishops. Wesleyan will begin its pursuit of a sixth-straight tourney crown on Friday at 1:00 p.m. versus 8th-seeded Averett University.
GOLF: Benvenue Country Club will play host to the men’s golf championship, which also begins on Friday, April 11th. The championship will include the top-nine USA South teams competing in a three-day, 54-hole event. The Battling Bishops will tee off as the conference’s 7th-seed, although Wesleyan currently boasts a 6th-place Golfstat ranking among USA South institutions.
