Rocky Mount, NC: North Carolina Wesleyan College is gearing up to welcome alumni and parents to campus for the annual Wesleyan Weekend & Homecoming, October 5-7, 2012. Since the first class of students received diplomas in 1964, more than 10,000 graduates have joined the ranks of loyal alumni, who were invited to the weekend events.
The combined weekend of Homecoming, Open House, and Parents’ Weekend festivities includes many opportunities for potential students and their parents to visit the camps, for current students to share a little bit of college life with their families, and for alumni to reconnect and reminisce with former classmates. The weekend offers a wide variety of activities for all ages and interests to enjoy. Details about the weekend are located on the college website to encourage advance planning.
Participants may choose to attend several networking events, dinners, receptions, and awards programs; a classic car show; campus tours; a shopping trip to the college bookstore, and more. Athletes in the group may choose to demonstrate their skills as they compete in friendly alumni golf matches and baseball or softball games. A traditional pep rally with cheerleaders, recognition for fall athletes, and a fireworks display to light up the sky on Friday night will add to the weekend excitement
Several new events were added to this year’s schedule. Wesleyan’s First Lady, Beth Gray will host a casual Friday afternoon tea for visiting female alumni, parents, faculty and staff at the President’s House on campus. An early Saturday morning fitness activity, Walk a Mile in Her Shoes is open to all in support of domestic violence victims through My Sister’s House. Participants will contribute or solicit donations and walk a mile on the campus loop in women’s high-heeled shoes. Surely amusing to watch, the walkers will get some exercise while seeking to raise awareness about this serious issue.
Later on Saturday morning, the campus Arc will be alive with a Fall Festival of novelties, games, crafts and other activities. The Braswell Building parking lot will be open for car enthusiasts to enjoy the 2012 Wesleyan Weekend Classic Car & Truck show featuring vehicles from the past and present.
Fans of the NCWC Battling Bishops can watch the women’s volleyball team compete on Friday followed by the men’s and women’s soccer teams on Saturday. Everyone can cheer for victory when the football team challenges Methodist College at 1 pm on Saturday. Alums were invited to register in advance for an 11 am pre-game picnic and tailgate and are encouraged to attend the football game at 1 pm on the Northern Nash High School Field.
On Saturday evening, the Athletic Department will introduce the newest Hall of Fame honorees and the Alumni Office will recognize Alumni Award Recipients. The event begins with a short reception, followed by dinner, and concludes with the awards ceremony.
Most of the weekend activities are free; however, there are a few that require advance registration or the purchase of a ticket. More details and a full schedule of the NC Wesleyan Weekend & Homecoming events planned for October 5-7 are available on the college website www.ncwc.edu/alumni or by calling the NCWC Alumni Office at 252-985-5145.
