Rocky Mount, N.C.- North Carolina Wesleyan College President James Gray joined local officials at a press conference to highlight details surrounding the upcoming USA South Spring Sports Championships. The group convened at 11 am on September 20 in the Rocky Mount Stadium of the City’s Sports Complex.
In his role as chair of the Rocky Mount Organizing Committee, Gray emphasized the collaborative effort required to bring the conference to Rocky Mount and expressed appreciation to all who made it possible. Mayor David Combs, USA South Conference Commissioner Rita Wiggs, Parks and Recreation Director Dale Smith, and Robbie Davis of the Tourism Development Authority for Nash County described the tournament and its benefits to the local economy. They announced the dates, times, and venues for the six spring sports tournaments.
The USA South Athletic Conference, in partnership with the City of Rocky Mount, will host the 2013 and 2014 USA South Spring Sports Festivals at athletic sites in Rocky Mount, Wilson, and Zebulon. The dates for the first year of tournament play are April 11 – 14, 2013. Over the days of the tournament, Rocky Mount will host more than 800 athletes from 11 conference schools across the Southeast, including NC Wesleyan College.
Those attending the press conference witnessed the unveiling of the championship’s logo. Additionally, attendees learned about the opening of a new tennis facility on the NC Wesleyan College campus. The NCWC Slick Family Foundation Tennis Center will celebrate its grand opening beginning at 9:30 am on Tuesday, October 9, 2012. The public is invited to attend.
