Bowling Skills earn Scholarship for Powell

Rocky Mount, NC – The Kitty Powell Scholarship Fund board of directors recently announced the 2012 awards totaling $5,000 distributed among 10 area scholarship winners.

Bowling talent Requita Powell is majoring in criminal justice.

NC Wesleyan College student Requita Pollard is one of this year’s recipients.  She is an active participant in the Rocky Mount bowling community.  A current league bowler, she has won several local tournaments and is actively organizing a league for the fall season.  Pollard is majoring in criminal justice at NC Wesleyan.

Since 1989, the Kitty Powell Scholarship Fund has awarded more than $65,000 to 107 qualified recipients allowing them to further their education. This year’s award is larger than any amount granted in previous years. To be eligible for a scholarship, the recipient must be a member in good standing of the Rocky Mount U.S. Bowling Congress, or a child or grandchild of a bowling member in good standing.
