Rocky Mount, NC: NC Wesleyan College sophomore Preston Bremus is boarding a plane today to begin a trip of a lifetime. Bremus will attend the London Olympics as part of a group from the International Sports Chaplains. He and his pastor, The Reverend Howard Jackson from Grace Covenant Church in Rocky Mount, will share their faith with Olympians and others during the 10-day event.
As a member of the Battling Bishops men’s soccer team and self-described “sports fan,” Bremus has a special interest in attending the London Olympics. He and Rev. Howard will stay in the Olympic Village and interact with the best athletes from around the world. The group will offer prayers and encouragement to the athletes, without distracting them from their training or other commitments.
“I am very excited about this trip,” Bremus said. “I’ve never been to London or the Olympics. This is an amazing opportunity, especially because I will be able to share my belief in Jesus Christ with athletes from over 200 nations.”
Bremus is hoping to meet some of the Olympic soccer players. He played varsity soccer for 3 years at Smithfield High School in his hometown of Smithfield, Virginia before joining the defense on the Wesleyan team. He is working toward a double major in English and Religion to back up his career goal of playing professional soccer. In addition to studying and playing soccer, Bremus is an active member of the Campus Refuge Ministries.
