ROCKY MOUNT, NC: NC Wesleyan College has announced the preliminary results of the recent Days for Wesleyan (DFW) fund raising effort that kicked off on September 20. The 2011 chair of this year’s initiative, Mike Hancock delivered the news on Saturday that the team of 80 community volunteers has collected approximately $112,000 in contributions and pledges of support for the college. Hancock is the Executive VP of Boddie Noell Enterprises. He and the company he represents have been long-time supporters of the college.
“I have been honored to be a part of the Days for Wesleyan,” Hancock said. “It is a great college and an important part of the economic future of our community. I have been pleased to see the enthusiasm of the volunteers and the equally enthusiastic support of our business leaders and other who have contributed to this important effort.”
Funds raised during DFW directly benefit Wesleyan students through scholarships, academic programming, and campus improvements. Since launching the 30th anniversary of the annual fund raiser with a special breakfast for the volunteers, the canvassing of the Rocky Mount area has generated $20,000 over last year’s effort. College officials report that contributions and pledges are still coming in, so they have decided to extend the time beyond the original deadline to last for several more weeks.
“We are sincerely appreciative of the community’s generous support for the college,” said Eddie Coats, NCWC Director of Advancement. “We hope this extended time will allow everyone an opportunity to be a part of supporting the great young people and initiatives on the NCWC campus.”
