Williams Named New VP of Student Affairs

Randy WilliamsRandolph Williams, Jr., an experienced educator and counselor, has been named Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students at North Carolina Wesleyan College, effective July 13.

Williams most recently served as Assistant Dean of Students at the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Va. Prior to that, he served for a total of eight years at Hampden-Sydney College, where he held positions as both assistant and associate Dean of Students.

Wesleyan President James A. Gray III said, “I am delighted for Randy to join our senior leadership team. He has proven himself at Hampden-Sydney and William & Mary to be a scholar and real professional in student affairs, which is a critical service for our students.”

Williams earned his bachelor’s degree in physics at Hampden-Sydney and taught high school math and physics in Amelia, Va., prior to earning his master’s degree in community and college counseling at Longwood University. Currently he is completing his Ph.D. in higher education administration at the College of William & Mary.

Williams has spoken at education conferences throughout Virginia on topics related to leadership and student motivation. He is a member of several professional organizations and has served on the board of a number of community organizations.

“My appointment as the chief student affairs officer at North Carolina Wesleyan is one that my family and I embrace with great enthusiasm,” Williams said. “President Gray’s grand vision for the College is thrilling and accompanied with clear initiatives that require significant student affairs participation. Being student focused and best practices oriented, I look forward to leading a talented staff in transforming learning in the lives of our students.”

Williams and his wife, Chiquita, have two daughters. “We look forward to being members of the Nash-Rocky Mount community,” he said.
