Shelton Leadership Program Planned
Rocky Mount, N.C.—North Carolina Wesleyan College and the ECU/NCSU Collaborative at the Gateway Technology Center have completed plans to bring the Shelton Challenge summer leadership development program to the Wesleyan campus, beginning in 2011. The program is for high school students, who will spend a week on campus to gain a greater understanding of public speaking, personal assessment and group dynamics, the role of values and ethics, approaches to leadership, teambuilding and empowering others, civic and social responsibility and goal setting.The Shelton Challenge is a program of the General H. Hugh Shelton Leadership Center at N.C. State University. General Shelton, former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and an alumnus of N.C. State, established the center to train others in some of the leadership skills that led to his success. The focus is on honesty, integrity, compassion, diversity, and social responsibility.
