Wilson Community College Joins “2+ Wesleyan Program”
Wilson Community College has become the latest school to partner with North Carolina Wesleyan College in the “2+Wesleyan Program,” which makes transferring to a bachelor’s degree program at Wesleyan a seamless process. The partnership also makes the cost of attending Wesleyan highly competitive with the cost of enrolling at one of North Carolina’s state-supported universities.
Community colleges that also participate in 2+Wesleyan include Nash Community College, Edgecombe Community College and Wake Technical Community College.
The program allows residents of North Carolina who have completed a two-year associate’s degree at one of the participating community colleges to transfer smoothly into a bachelor’s degree program at North Carolina Wesleyan—with costs comparable to or below those at North Carolina state schools. Students may enroll in the program full- or part-time and may take traditional day classes or Adult Degree Program courses, which are taught in the evening.
Dr. Lois Woodall, director of Wesleyan’s Adult Degree Program at the Triangle and Rocky Mount, says, “The Adult Degree Program gives adult students the opportunity to earn a bachelor’s degree in an accelerated format. Classes meet one night per week from 6 to 10 p.m. for eight weeks for each class the student enrolls in. Wesleyan accepts up to 64 transfer hours from many of the associate degree programs from Wilson, Nash, Edgecombe and Wake Tech community colleges. For students who have earned their associate’s degree from these community colleges, Wesleyan also waives the application fee.”
Gary L. Sherman, Wesleyan’s Vice President of Enrollment Management, said,
“The 2+ Wesleyan Program makes Wesleyan a great option for those who may think they have to attend a state university simply because of price. This program really levels the playing field regarding the price tag. Also, federal aid programs can further assist in making bachelor’s degrees affordable.”
Another feature of the 2+ Wesleyan Program for traditional students is that high academic achieving students receive even greater financial assistance toward completing their degrees, Sherman said.
“The program will greatly benefit transfer students who prefer to live at home while attending college, as well as those who are unable to commute the long distance to attend a state university,” Sherman explained. “A further advantage to these students is personal-sized classes and a genuine classroom experience with highly qualified faculty for those students who would rather not take courses online.
“Our focus is on moving Eastern North Carolina forward by helping qualified students achieve their dreams of completing a bachelor’s degree.”
