Nash-Rocky Mount Teachers, Staff To Exhibit Artwork

Teachers ArtRocky Mount, N.C.— Local school teachers and school staff will show off their after-hours artistic talents in the District-Wide Nash-Rocky Mount Schools Art Exhibition that begins January 15 at NC Wesleyan College. The exhibit opens with a free public reception from 7 to 9 p.m. in Wesleyan’s Mims Gallery in the Dunn Center.

The gathering will be an opportunity for the community and parents of school children to meet the 36 participating teachers and staff and to appreciate the broad range and variety of their talents. Teachers and staff in all grades, all subjects and all schools were eligible to enter their creative achievements in the exhibit, which includes paintings, stained glass, quilting, photography and more.
The Tar River Dulcimers also will perform live music in the gallery to add listening pleasure to the fellowship of the event.

Teachers Art2“Such personal creativity in one way or another enriches our schools and, most importantly, affects the quality of our kids’ education,” said Everett Adelman, a Wesleyan art professor and curator of the Mims Gallery. “Often our school children may only see a single side of the staff and teachers with whom they spend 1,400 hours a year. This exhibit will add another dimension and may open some doors on common interests.”

The exhibit will run through February 14. Gallery hours are 9 a.m. – 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. For additional information and to arrange group tours, e-mail eadelman@ncwc.edu or telephone 252-985-5268.
