Merit / Special Distinction / Need-based Scholarships / Grants / Awards

Since its inception in 1956, North Carolina is proud of its heritage in supporting students in their quest for success in higher education.  This legacy of assistance still continues today.

 

Meritorious Scholarships:

John & Charles Wesley 
Heritage Scholarship

 $37,200

Full tuition, room, board, and books. SAT 1130(CR/Math) / ACT 25 / 3.75 weighted GPA on a 4.0 scale.   (Completion of FAFSA is required, and scholarship is inclusive of any financial aid a student may be eligible for.)
Must maintain GPA of 3.2 in college coursework.  Must be enrolled full-time.

Trustee Scholarship  $28,000

Full tuition and books.  SAT 1100(CR/Math) / ACT 24 / 3.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale. (Inclusive of Honors Scholarship and/or NC Need-Based Scholarship, if eligible) 
Must maintain GPA of 2.95 in college coursework.  Must be enrolled full-time.

Valedictorian/Salutatorian
Scholarship

 $28,000

Full tuition and books.  SAT 1100(CR/Math) / ACT 24 / 3.35 GPA on a 4.0 scale. (Inclusive of Honors Scholarship and/or NC Need-Based Scholarship, if eligible) 
Must maintain GPA of 2.8 in college coursework.  Must be enrolled full-time.

President's Award

3.30 Cumulative GPA (on a 4.0 scale)  AND
1050 SAT (Critical Reading/Math only) OR 23 ACT Composite
Must maintain GPA of 2.75 in college coursework.  Must be enrolled full-time.

Dean's Award

3.15 Weighted Cumulative GPA (on a 4.0 scale) AND
1000 SAT (Critical Reading/Math only) OR 21 ACT Composite
Must maintain GPA of 2.6 in college coursework.  Must be enrolled full-time.

Meritorious Levels of Scholarship:  Wesleyan Awards 
Recipients must maintain a GPA of 2.3 in college coursework, maintain satisfactory academic progress, and be enrolled as a full-time student in the Traditional Program.

Meritorious Levels of Scholarships for Transfer Students:

Recipients must maintain GPA of 2.5 in college coursework, maintain Satisfactory Academic  Progress, and be enrolled
full-time in the Traditional Program.

Transfer Award Gold $13,500 3.5 GPA 
Transfer Award Blue $10,500 3.0 GPA
Transfer Award White $7,500 2.5 GPA

Special Distinction Awards:

Honors Award

$1,000 Member of Roger & Gaile D. Taylor Honors Program (Application-based)
International Award $5,500 All Years (New students only)
United Methodist Award $2,000 Application for UMC Scholarship / Letter from pastor confirming active membership in United Methodist Church affiliated with the NC Conference of United Methodist Church.
Ministerial Award 50% reduction for tuition, room & board, books Dependent of full-time, licensed ordained ministers of a United Methodist Church in the NC Conference.  Also extends to all denominations residing in Nash, Edgecombe, Franklin, Halifax, Johnston, Wake, Warren, and Wilson. (Replaces all other institutional funds.)
Fine Arts Award $1,000 Band/Wesleyan Singers/Wesleyan Players

Need Based Awards:

FAFSA is required for all of the following. The North Carolina Wesleyan Federal School Code Number is 002951.

Federal Pell Grant Up to $5,730 Need-based; FAFSA completion required
SEOG Grant Up to $4,000 Need-based for high need; FAFSA completion required (Preference to non-NC residents)
NC Need-Based Scholarship Varies NC resident for at least two years; FAFSA completion required
Federal Work-Study Up to $1,800 Need-based; FAFSA completion required
Direct Student Loan $5,500-$12,500 Based on grade level; FAFSA completion required
Federal Perkins Loan Varies Sophomore status or above; high need; FAFSA completion required
