Ian David Campbell Newbould became President of North Carolina Wesleyan Colleges fifth President on August 1, 2001. He has extensive career experience as a History professor and as an administrator in Canada and abroad, having served as President of Mount Allison University in New Brunswick, Canada from 1991-2001. He held previous appointments as Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences and Vice President Academic at the University of Lethbridge, in Alberta, Canada, and was elected as a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society of Great Britain. Dr. Newbould received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Western Ontario (Canada); his Master of Arts from the University of Guelph (Canada); and his PhD. from the University of Manchester (England). He has received numerous honors and awards throughout his career, including a visiting fellowship at Oxford and numerous research grants. He has been an active member of a number of professional and civic organizations and has served on a variety of boards, commissions, and task forces throughout his career. From 1999 to 2001 he served as Chairman of the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada. He has published a book entitled Whiggery and Reform 1830-1841: The Politics of Government, written numerous articles on topics in British, Canadian and European history, and delivered many papers at conferences throughout the world. Dr. Newbould and his wife Carla have three children: Adrian, Sophia and Alexandra, and two grandchildren, Amelia and Jacobus. |
