Vice President of Enrollment Management

Bill AllenBill Allen assumed the role Vice President of Enrollment Management at North Carolina Wesleyan College in March of 2011. Allen joined the College after serving as Dean of Administration at Castleton State College in Vermont.

“I am really excited about joining the staff here at North Carolina Wesleyan; the people here are phenomenal” said Allen. “This institution has the potential to be America’s next great college and I am honored to be a part of that development and growth.”

As Dean of Administration, Allen acted as Chief Financial and Administrative Officers for the college, managing a budget upwards of $40 million and overseeing the campus’ Business Office, Physical Plant, IT Services, Bookstore, Admissions and Financial Aid Offices, and Student Services. Prior to his promotion, he had corrected a seven-year enrollment decline as Castleton’s Dean of Enrollment from 1999 to 2003. Allen’s tenure saw Castleton enjoy a steady period of growth thanks in part to his rebuilding of the college’s admissions operation and an effective telemarketing campaign.

In addition to the many hats worn in the Castleton community, Allen chaired CSC’s Emergency Planning committee which drafted college’s first formal emergency plan. He also represented the college on various system committees including Business Affairs, e-commerce, direct lending review, financial aid organization, insurance review, and general system purchases.

Allen continued, “I did wear many hats at Castleton, but the one I enjoyed the most was my enrollment management hat.  I thrive on the interactions with students and families as they work towards making higher education decisions.”

He now welcomes those same responsibilities at NCWC, stating, “Wesleyan is the perfect fit for those students looking for a personal experience where people will know you by name and you will be a valued, active member of the community. It will be fun promoting Wesleyan because it does such a wonderful job helping students along to their next stages in life.”

States President Jim Gray, “We searched nationally for the best candidate, and Bill reflects the level of skill, experience, and drive we need. I am confident he will grow our Traditional Program not just with more students, but with better-prepared students from our most popular regions in North Carolina, Virginia, and Maryland, as well as the Northeast and overseas.”

Allen received his B.A. in American Civilization from George Washington University in 1989 and later earned his M.A. in United States History at James Madison University in 1994.

Allen then worked in Washington D.C. as a Technical Information Specialist for the Executive Office of the President before beginning his career in higher education at Mary Baldwin College in Staunton, Virginia. There, he served a Director of Financial Aid and Associate Dean of Admissions for nearly five years.

A native of Johnstown, New York, he and his wife, Kerri, have 2 children: Zach and Noel.
