Application for Graduation

Every student who anticipates graduating from Wesleyan must complete and submit an application for graduation according to the following dates:

August Graduation:
April 1 - June 15
December Graduation:
July 1 - September 15
May Graduation:
November 15 - January 15

Commencement Information - May 2012

North Carolina Wesleyan College holds two commencement ceremonies a year, one in December and another in May. You will find information concerning applying for graduation, ceremony information, ticket information, and other graduation activities below and by following the links to the left.

COMMENCEMENT INFORMATION - May 5, 2012

 

Time and Place

Commencement Exercises will be held on Saturday, May 5, 2012 beginning at 10:00 a.m. in Minges Auditorium located in the Dunn Center of the Performing Arts.  Guests must be seated by 9:45 a.m.  before the procession of the graduates.  Graduates, please note that you MUST be assembled in the Carlton Boardroom of the Dunn Center between 8:30 a.m. - 9:00 a.m.  More information is provided in the Assembly of Degree Candidates section.

Commencement Vouchers

Each graduate may request up to 5 vouchers for the reserved seating of their guests.  Ticket vouchers may be picked up at Graduation Fairs.  Graduation Fairs will be held on the following dates:  

Rocky Mount Campus, March 5, 2012 from 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.

Triangle Campus, March 6, 2012 from 4:30-6:30 p.m.

Goldsboro Campus, March 7, 2012 from 4:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m.

If you are unable to attend one of these Graduation Fairs, please contact one of the following for voucher pick up:

The deadline for voucher pickup is April 25, 2012.  The College is not responsible for lost or misplaced vouchers.  Replacement vouchers will not be available.  There is no sign up for extra vouchers. 

Please note, there is no overflow seating; however, the College will be webcasting graduation for family and friends who are unable to attend the event.  The link to the webcast will be available on the front page of the College website: www.ncwc.edu on the day of Commencement.  Webcasting will begin at 9:45 a.m. prior to the beginning of the ceremony.

Admission of Guests

For admittance to the Dunn Center, commencement vouchers must be taken to the Hartness Center and exchanged for a Dunn Center ticket which will show an assigned seat number.  The Hartness Center will open at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday May 5, 2012.  Commencement vouchers may be exchanged for tickets up until 9:30 a.m.   

After 9:30 a.m., any tickets that have not been distributed will be given to guests on a first come, first served basis at the Dunn Center.  Please inform your guests that they should arrive at the Hartness Center before 9:30 a.m. to exchange their vouchers for tickets.  Anyone arriving after 9:30 a.m. will not be guaranteed a Dunn Center ticket regardless if they have a voucher.  Guests will not be allowed to enter the Dunn Center without a Dunn Center ticket obtained from the Hartness Center.  Commencement vouchers will not be accepted for entrance. 

Dunn Center doors will open at 9:00 a.m.   All guests should be seated by 9:45 a.m.  The doors to the Dunn Center will be locked at 10:15 a.m. after the ceremony has begun.  Any guests arriving after 10:15 a.m. will not be admitted into the Dunn Center.  Please be sure your guests understand that they must arrive on time.  Doors will remain locked during the ceremony; therefore, guests should not leave the building as they may not be able to re-enter upon exiting. 

Admission of Children

Children five and under do not require a Dunn Center Ticket; however, they must sit in someone’s lap. Children six and over require a Dunn Center Ticket.  As a courtesy to others, please be mindful of the noise level that your child/children are creating.  If the child/children are creating a disturbance please escort them to the lobby.

Handicapped Seating

If you have guests who require handicapped seating, please contact Tammy Harrell at (252) 985-5140 no later than April 20, 2012.  There will be no early admittance of handicapped persons that have not contacted Mrs. Harrell in advance. 

Please note there is no waiting area prior to the opening of the doors at 9:00 a.m.  There is handicapped parking available on the north and south sides of the Dunn Center. Please note there is limited handicapped seating and if no previous arrangements have been made, guests may have to sit in a regular seat if no handicap seating is available.

 

INFORMATION FOR THE GRADUATE

 Academic Regalia

The academic regalia consists of cap, gown, hood, tassel, and black shoes.  The cap is an essential part of the academic costume.  In particular, the cap should not be removed at any point during the conferring of degrees. Cap and gown may be picked up at the Graduation Fair for your respective sites. 

Assembly of Degree Candidates

Degree candidates MUST report to the Carlton Boardroom between 8:30 a.m. - 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 5th.  The Carlton Boardroom is located in the Dunn Center for the Performing Arts at the south entrance of the building.  Please note that only graduates will be allowed to enter at this entrance.  Honor cords will be given out at this time.  The College Registrar will instruct degree candidates on how to proceed during the ceremony.  There is no Commencement rehearsal.

 

SPECIAL NOTE: Graduation is a joyous and special occasion.  It is a time for celebration and merriment.  You are reminded, however, that Commencement is a formal College function.  You are requested to maintain the order and solemnity of the proceedings.  It is a courtesy we owe to each other and to our guests.

Diplomas

Everyone who crosses the stage will receive his or her diploma if officially graduating.  If you have earned academic honors, they will be printed on your diploma.  Academic Honors are estimated at the beginning of the semester based on past academic performance.  If this estimate is incorrect, no diploma will be included in your diploma cover and your diploma will be reordered at no cost to you. 

All financial obligations to the College must be cleared in order to receive your diploma at the commencement exercises.  If not, your diploma will be mailed to you once your financial obligations are satisfied.  Please be sure that the Registrar and Student Accounts/Business Office has your correct mailing address.   

Photography

A professional photographer from Grad Images Photography will photograph each graduate as he/she walks across the stage during Commencement.  The pictures will be available to purchase through Grad Images.  The contact for Grad Images is www.gradimages.com or 1-800-261-2576.  Grad Images is independent of the College and all questions regarding photographs should be directed to them.
