Dr. Kosal is Associate Professor of Biology and teaches a wide variety of courses in the areas of ecology and biodiversity. Her research interests center around animal behavior, conservation, ecology and evolution of pathogens & their vectors, as well as resilience.
Dr. Kosal has previously taught at Meredith College and North Carolina State University. While at North Carolina Wesleyan College, she has served as Division Chair of Mathematics and Sciences for 5 years and has received the Exemplary Teacher Award (2001-2002) as well as the Jefferson-Pilot Professorship Award (2004-2005). In 2008-2009, Erica was selected as a SENCER fellow (Science Education for New Civic Engagement and Responsibilities). In this role, Dr. Kosal links science content to applied contextual problems to facilitate student learning.
Outside of NC Wesleyan, Dr. Kosal is an advocate for Lyme disease awareness and speaks regularly to audiences on this topic as well as resilience. Her book Miracles for Daddy: A Family’s Inspirational Fight against a Modern Medical Goliath chronicles her husband’s illness and reminds readers about the power of the human spirit and belief.
Dr. Kosal grew up in Michigan and currently lives in Raleigh with her husband and two small children.
