Originally from eastern North Carolina; Dr. Lewis, was a police officer for 18 years during which time he attended over 1560 hours of law enforcement related training programs, to include the NC Criminal Justice Instructors certification course. During the course of his career as a police officer Dr. Lewis earned the North Carolina Advanced Law Enforcement Certification, the City Managers FOCUS Community Service Award, and several departmental / citizen letters of commendation.
While a police officer Dr. Lewis was involved in the development & planning stages of his agency’s 2006 Night Out Against Crime Event, the Police Canine Unit, the development of agency recruiting / marketing materials, and the Hurricane Emergency Response plan.
Dr. Lewis has taught at NC Wesleyan since 2004 in the Criminal Justice department. In 2011 Dr. Lewis was recognized by the National Society of Leadership and Success for Excellence in Teaching and the Faculty / Administration of North Carolina Wesleyan College for Exemplary Teaching.
During his free time Dr. Lewis enjoys running, biking, swimming, carving antique style duck decoys and surfing (in the ocean not the internet).
