Dr. Stan Smedley teaches at the Raleigh-Durham Campus. He is a native of Camp Hill, Pennsylvania. He resides in Cary and is a member of Colonial Baptist Church. He came to Wesleyan primarily because he enjoys teaching adult students. In 2000 Dr. Smedley was voted by students “N.C. Wesleyan ADP Facilitator of the Year.” In 2008 the college faculty presented the “Exemplary Faculty Member of the Year Award” to Dr. Smedley. He was the recipient of the Wilkinson Award in 2009 and also 2012. Dr. Smedley teaches Senior Seminar Business Administration Capstone, Business Strategy, and International Business. Leadership Strategy is Dr. Smedley’s professional interest. He initiated graduate study in business administration at Gardner-Webb University, offering North Carolina’s fourth largest non-profit MBA Program.
Dr. Smedley has taught 29 years in liberal arts colleges. Prior to Wesleyan he served in many positions including full-professor of Business Administration, full-professor of Sociology, and MBA Director. Dr. Smedley authored the Marketing exam for national (U.S.) university/college competition. With other professors he traveled to the U.A.E., China, Argentina, Chile, Indonesia, South Africa, Botswana, Brazil, and Zimbabwe to participate in studies focusing on the economies and business environments of these emerging markets.
