Vice President of Enrollment Management
Bill Allen

Bill Allen joined North Carolina Wesleyan as Vice President of Enrollment Management in March of 2011. Since his arrival, he and his team have worked to create a user-friendly admissions process geared to today's students. They retooled the software used for admissions and financial aid and improved the department's presence on the web. They implemented a series of Open House and orientation days, including plans for an overnight orientation.
Allen is active on the campus as a member of the President's Council, the strategic planning task force, and multiple committees including: campus security, student retention, and website management.
A native of Johnstown, NY, Allen came to NCWC from Vermont where he had served as Dean of Administration at Castleton State College. During his tenure at Castleton, Allen served as Chief Financial and Administrative Officer. He managed a $40+ million budget and oversaw the admissions and financial aid offices, business office, bookstore, IT services, physical plant, and student services.
As Dean of Enrollment at CSC from 1999 to 2003, Allen and his team corrected a seven-year enrollment decline. Under his leadership, CSC enjoyed a period of steady growth resulting from the rebuilt admissions operation and an effective telemarketing campaign.
Allen chaired the CSC Emergency Planning Committee, which drafted first formal emergency plan for that campus. He represented the college on various committees including business affairs, direct lending review, e-commerce, financial aid organization, general system purchases, and insurance review.
Allen said, “I wore many hats at Castleton, but the one I enjoyed the most was my enrollment management hat. I thrive on the interactions with students and families as they work toward making higher education decisions.”
He has embraced Wesleyan and said, “Wesleyan is the perfect fit for students looking for a personal experience, where people will know you by name and you will be a valued, active member of the community. It is fun to promote Wesleyan because it does such a wonderful job helping students along to their next stages in life.”
Allen received the Bachelor of Arts Degree in American Civilization from George Washington University in 1989. He earned the Master of Arts Degree in United States History at James Madison University in 1994.
After graduation, Allen worked in Washington, D.C. as a technical information specialist for the Executive Office of the President before beginning his career in higher education at Mary Baldwin College in Staunton, Virginia. He was Director of Financial Aid and Associate Dean of Admissions at MBC for five years before his move to Vermont.
Bill Allen and his wife, Kerri, live in Rocky Mount. They have 2 children, Zach and Noel.
