Dr. Michael B. Brown

Dr. Michael B. BrownDr. Brown joined Wesleyan as provost and senior vice president for academic affairs on July 15, 2013. 

Dr. Brown most recently served as professor of psychology and associate dean of the Thomas Harriot College of Arts and Sciences at East Carolina University. At ECU he received the University of North Carolina Board Of Governors Distinguished Professor for Teaching Award in 2000 and the East Carolina University Scholar-Teacher Award in 2007. The North Carolina College Personnel Association presented Dr. Brown with its Outstanding Service in Support of the Profession Award in 2006 and it’s Distinguished Scholar Award in 2010.

In 2004, Dr. Brown was selected as an American Council of Education Fellow and served during the 2004-2005 academic year as an academic administration fellow with William Durden, President of Dickinson College, in Carlisle, Pa.

Dr. Brown earned the bachelor of science degree in biology, the master of science degree in family and child development, and a PhD in school psychology from Virginia Tech.  He completed a pre-doctoral psychology internship at the Reading (PA) Hospital and Medical Center and is a licensed psychologist.

Dr. Brown and his wife, Susan, a second grade teacher, have a daughter, Catherine.
