Day for Wesleyan
|
The event is chaired each year by local community leaders. A faculty chair and a staff chair are chosen for on-campus solicitation as well. Student leaders also assist with the days activities. Day for Wesleyan traditionally begins with an informative breakfast for volunteers at Wesleyans Dunn Center for the Performing Arts. From there the volunteers go with their assigned partners to make their calls. At lunchtime they gather in the campus cafeteria for lunch with other volunteers and some of the students who will benefit from their fundraising efforts. They turn in their collections and pledges before heading out to complete their calls. The days activities conclude with a celebration and reception at the Wesleyan presidents home on the campus. Members of the Rocky Mount Area Chamber of Commerce, alumni, faculty, staff, and friends of the college are present when the days tally is revealed. For many years, the total amount raised for each Day for Wesleyan has surpassed that of the previous year. The 26th Annual Day For Wesleyan raised a record $552,940. Day
for Wesleyan is an annual fundraising event conducted each September in the
greater Rocky Mount area. On the selected day, more than 100 volunteers from
throughout the community visit nearly 1,200 local businesses and individuals
to ask for donations and pledges to support ongoing basic needs of the
College. These include scholarships, library resources, teaching materials,
computers, and many other items and services required to maintain Wesleyans
level of quality.
