Q: Can I change my initial password?
A: YES! It is a good idea to change your password on a regular basis. NCWC
Faculty and Staff
actually have two passwords - one for logon to the WESLINK network
(computer logon) and one for email. In addition,
faculty, staff, and students have a password for their
CampusCruiser account.
Please note that the "change password" program which may still be on some
public computers no longer works.
The system enforces "good password" guidelines as listed below:
- Passwords must be at least 8 characters long.
- Passwords must be a combination of upper and lower case letters OR letters and numbers.
WESLINK logon
Passwords for WESLINK logon can be changed from any computer which connects to
WESLINK.
- From a Windows NT, 2000, or XP computer, press CTRL +ALT + DEL to activate the Security dialog box.
Click "Change Password..." Enter the required information then click OK.
- From a Windows 95, 98, or ME computer, click Start | Settings | Control Panel and double-click
"Passwords". If this is your computer (the one you normally use), you
should click "Change Windows Password" and on the next screen check the box
"Microsoft Networking" so that both passwords will be changed. If it is not your
computer, click "Change Other Passwords" and select "Microsoft
Networking" as the password to change.
- Note that it may take up to 15 minutes for password changes to take full effect.
Email/Web logon
Passwords for the email system (as well as personal web authoring and page access) can
be changed from anywhere using the following secure web page:
https://secure.ncwc.edu/password/change.htr
- Note that it may take up to 15 minutes for password changes to take full effect.
- Remember that if your email program (such as Outlook 98) is set to remember your
password, you will have to change it there as well.
- To change the remembered password in Outlook 98, select Tools | Services, then
double-click your email account. On the "Servers" tab, enter the new password in
the password field.
