JOB LISTINGS

Q: Why does it take so long to get access to the Electronic News groups?

A: The Electronic News server is located in Research Triangle Park, Durham NC. In order to access the news groups a listing of available groups must reside in your home directory. This list takes a long time to be generated, and must be updated every time you use the "read News" option. The causes for this time delay are two fold:

  • First, There are over 13000 news groups availble with more being created every day.
  • Second, The size of the pipeline between NCWC and the regional network is small. Bandwidth is always being increased, and that should help some over time.

STILL, the first time you access News from the main menu, there will be a delay.... It will appear that your system is locked.... DO NOT close the window or try to break out.... This will only cause more problems. The best advice is to:

! BE Patient!
