Q: Why do I keep getting mail saying "message undeliverable" (otherwise known as "bounced" e-mail)?A: The most common reason for bounced e-mail is invalid addresses. Below are some tips on how to find and verify email addresses. Q: How can I find the email address for a friend on campus?A: The quickest way to verify an on campus friend's email address is to use the World Wide Web option from your logon session's main menu. Access the NCWC Home Page and use our campus directory. This menu provides complete Faculty, Staff, and Student email addresses. The file is updated whenever a change is made to user accounts. At NC Wesleyan College, we have a standard for user names. The standard for the system (ncwc.edu) is the first letter of your first name, first letter of middle name, and last name, not case sensitive. Example: Forrest P Boyd would have a user name of "fpboyd." To send mail from within the system "ncwc.edu," you need only the user name. To send mail from outside the ncwc system, e.g., from an internet service provider, you will need to use a fully qualified user name-- So; fpboyd becomes fpboyd@ncwc.edu... There are a growing number of exceptions to this standard as there are a few people with the same first initials and last name. It always pays to check. If you need help with a particular user or email address send email to help@ncwc.edu. Q: How do I find out someone's email address at another institution?A: Users are able to send email "globally" assuming you know a valid email address. Valid email addresses look like:
(the "domain" may have additional periods in it). If you do not know the person's email address, there are several tools available to you to find a user at a particular site, though they are not very robust. There is a discussion of some of them in the College 101 introduction to Email. If you are using a campus computer running Windows NT you can also try the procedure below:
