Eighteen Artists Display Works
On Rural Life In Nash County

 

Rocky Mount, N.C.—Eighteen of North Carolina's finest historic artists, notable contemporary painters, photographers, and folk artists will exhibit artworks in North Carolina Wesleyan College's Mims Gallery in the Dunn Center for the Performing Arts beginning with an opening reception on Friday, October 13, from 7 to 9 p.m.  The exhibit is concurrent with the professional performance of "Charlotte's Web" in Minges Auditorium.

         

Live music by country musician Linda Ripke will be ongoing during the exhibit. Visitors will have the opportunity to meet the artists and enjoy traditional hammer dulcimer and song. The exhibit is free and open to the public, and refreshments will be served.

         

Entitled "The Farm Show," the exhibit displays the work of Sarah Blakeslee, Joesph Cave, Paisley Cloyd, Matt Cooper, Lena Bullock Davis, Kiki Farish, Robert Flowers, Karen Harley, Allen Hinnant, Roger Manley, A.E. Mayo, Robert Miller, Beth Newsome, Dianne Rodwell, Magdalene Tabron, Willie Thorne, James Wood, and Jimmy Womble. The exhibition will continue through November 5. "The Farm Show" comes on the second weekend of the month-long partnership with the Spring Hope Chamber of Commerce called the "Nash Arts Harvest: A Cornucopia of Contemporary Arts and Traditional Art Expressing the Agricultural Heritage of Nash County." This series of free community events begins October 6-7 with the Spring Hope (N.C.) Pumpkin Festival. The festival begins with the famous Friday Night Street Dance with Nancy and Tammy and the Country Roads Band.  On Saturday at 2 p.m., the Shriners, Fire Companies, floats, and high school marching bands will highlight a parade. On Saturday, October 21, the Rocky Mount Imperial Center will feature folk-craft demonstrations, wood and needle craft, and traditional country music from noon until 9 p.m. Ghost Stories from Tarside Tales will begin at 7 p.m. For details call 972-1163.    

         

Rounding out the month's events on Friday, October 27, from 7 - 9 p.m.  will be an evening of Bluegrass music at the Nasharts Center, 100 E. Washington Street in Nashville. Bluegrass was born on the farm and continues to be the most popular folk music in America. For details call 459-4734.
