Wine, Women & Wealth: Educational Forum
Set for October 12

 

Rocky Mount, N.C. -- "Wine, Women and Wealth: An Educational Forum of Legal and Financial Issues Affecting Women" will be held on Thursday, October 12, in the Dunn Center for the Performing Arts at North Carolina Wesleyan College. The public and Wesleyan students are invited to attend this event co-sponsored by Wesleyan and the Women's Network of Eastern North Carolina as part of North Carolina Wesleyan's 50th Anniversary celebration.

 

The event will begin at 5:30 p.m. with hors d'oeuvres, followed by the program at 6:10 p.m. A question and answer session will be held at the end of the program. The forum is open to Wesleyan women students free of charge; general tickets are $20 and are available through the Dunn Center's Belk Box Office at 252-985-5197 or see www.ncwc.edu.

 

Featured speakers will include:

 

Wendy Wilson, a local attorney with Batts, Batts, & Bell. Her practice includes estate planning and administration, estate and fiduciary litigation, income tax, corporate law, and general civil litigation. She served as a law clerk to the Honorable John C. Martin, now Chief Judge of the Court of Appeals of North Carolina, from 2000 to 2001.

 

Dr. Nancy Floyd, Associate Professor of Computer Information Systems and Chair of the Business Division at Wesleyan. She earned her B.A. in English from the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill, her M.B.A. from Boston University, and her Ph.D. in Information Systems from Virginia Commonwealth University.  Dr. Floyd has authored three textbooks. Since 1999 she has been an independent business owner of an upscale pet care facility.

 

Katherine Wiggins Fisher is a native of Rocky Mount and an attorney with Battle, Winslow, Scott & Wiley. Family and domestic law is one of her areas of practice. A graduate of the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill, Katherine received her law degree at Campbell University School of Law. She is actively involved with the Tar River Kiwanis, Cities in Schools, and the Junior Guild, as well as with several civic organizations.

 

Deborah Sperati is an attorney with Poyner & Spruill and practices in the area of creditor's rights and civil litigation. Deborah earned both her B.A. in English, with honors, and her J.D. from the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill. She serves on the Board of Directors for the Rocky Mount Area Chamber of Commerce, the Nash Arts Council, and the Tar River Civic Club. In addition to participating in many communitity activities, she is a black belt in Tae Kwon Do and a certified sommelier.

 

The Women's Network of Eastern North Carolina was organized in 2003 to provide opportunities for networking, socializing, mentoring, and becoming involved with the community. The organization encourages the involvement of women in Rocky Mount and throughout Eastern North Carolina. The group has sponsored educational forums on personal and professional image, women's health issues, and self-assessment. On a lighter note, the Women's Network has also sponsored a forum exploring techniques in painting, knitting, and the art of carving fruits and vegetables. Visit their website at encwomensnetwork.org.

 

North Carolina Wesleyan College was chartered on October 25, 1956, and is celebrating 50 years of building brighter futures. Wesleyan is an independent, four-year liberal arts college for men and women and is affiliated with The United Methodist Church.
