Wesleyan Continues Successful Full-Tuition Valedictorian Scholarship

Five NCWC Valedictorian Scholarship Recipients

Five students received Valedictorian Scholarships for the 2005-2006 academic year. Left to right are valedictorians of their high school classes: Talisha Fulcher of Harker’s Island, N.C.; Ashley Hawkins of Roanoke Rapids, N.C.; Amber Long of Fayetteville, N.C.; Lauren Moore of Jamesville, N.C.; and Veronica Vega of Rocky Mount.

Rocky Mount, N.C.—Gary Sherman, North Carolina Wesleyan College’s Vice President of Enrollment Management, has announced that based upon the success of the College’s Valedictorian Scholarship program, the scholarships will be offered again to high school valedictorians who apply for Wesleyan’s fall 2006 semester.

All qualified high school valedictorians who have been accepted for admission to Wesleyan will receive a full-tuition scholarship. The students also will be granted admission to the College’s Honors Program for highly-motivated students, which leads to a special Honors degree awarded at graduation.

"The scholarship for valedictorians is valued at more than $64,000 over a four-year period," Sherman said. "It provides an incentive for outstanding students to consider the opportunity to obtain an excellent education at North Carolina Wesleyan. We were pleased with the five full scholarships awarded in 2005 and are pleased to have this caliber of student select Wesleyan. Other full and partial scholarships are available at Wesleyan for academically strong students, but the Valedictorian Scholarship is the only one that is awarded upon acceptance to Wesleyan. The other criterion for this award is that the student must have achieved at least a score of 1050 on the Math and Verbal portions of the SAT. Wesleyan wants these top students to understand that the College recognizes their accomplishments and is prepared to help them continue their pursuit of educational excellence."
