January 2, 2006 18th Annual Martin Luther King Art Contest To Be Held At Wesleyan's Dunn Center Rocky Mount, N.C.—Honoring the vision and the dream of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., school children for the past 18 years have competed to express Dr. King’s message through art and public speaking. This year’s theme for 2006 is "Many Voices…One Message: Help Somebody." The Martin Luther King Commission, the Human Relations Department of the City of Rocky Mount, and North Carolina Wesleyan College are sponsoring an art contest with cash prizes for Nash and Edgecombe County school children. Formatted mail-in entry forms ready for drawing, collage, or painting are distributed to the principals of all Nash-Edgecombe schools. When the artwork is complete, all a child has to do is mail it to the Civic Gallery at Wesleyan’s Dunn Center. Judges look for how well the theme is interpreted, how creatively the message is expressed, and how carefully-made the artwork is. All artworks will be on view for the January 16th Prayer Breakfast at North Carolina Wesleyan College’s Dunn Center, which is free and open to the public. Winners will be identified with first, second, and third prize ribbons and will receive cash prizes. The exhibition will continue Monday-Friday, 9-5, until March 9. ### |
