Real Judge To Preside Over Mock Trial At North Carolina Wesleyan College

During Alcohol Awareness Week Activities

Rocky Mount, N.C.—District Court Judge Robert A. Evans of Wilson, N.C., will preside at a mock trial at North Carolina Wesleyan College on Wednesday, April 20, at 6 p.m. in Leon Russell Chapel. Nearly a dozen Wesleyan students will participate in the Moot Court, as it is called.

Characters in the trial carry names such as Jennifer Schmirnoff, the accused, Jack Daniels, the accused’s boyfriend, witnesses Joni Walker and Barbara Thunderbird, alcohol expert Joe B. Weiser, and prosecutor Melisa Bacardi. Despite the levity of character names, the trial itself is very serious and heightens awareness of a number of issues that surround alcohol abuse.

Alcohol Awareness Week activities at Wesleyan began April 18 with a guest speaker from the Rocky Mount Police Department. On Wednesday, April 20, the N.C. Alcohol Law Enforcement Division will present "Keys to Life" in Leon Russell Chapel at 11:30 a.m. followed at approximately 12:30 p.m. by a re-enactment of a crash in the parking lot next to the chapel.

The Nash County Sheriff’s Department will hold a golf cart driving course from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, April 21, on the lawn near Edgecombe Hall.

On Friday, April 22, at 10 a.m. Trooper Young will speak in Leon Russell Chapel on the Wesleyan campus. The events are open to the public at no charge.
