Nash County Art Teachers To Exhibit Their Work

Beginning September 9 at North Carolina Wesleyan College

Rocky Mount, N.C—An exhibit of art by members of the Nash-Rocky Mount Art Teachers Association will open Friday, September 9, at 7 p.m. in the Mims Gallery at North Carolina Wesleyan College’s Dunn Center for the Performing Arts. At the free public reception that will open the exhibit, Rocky Mount Mayor Fred Turnage will acknowledge the talent and teaching excellence of the county’s teachers, and art teachers in particular. Parents, students, and art lovers are encouraged to come and see what Nash County’s art teachers’ specialties are and enjoy the fellowship of the evening.

The professional background and ongoing creative life of Nash County’s art teachers reads like a Who’s Who in North Carolina art. Not only do the art teachers have impressive teaching credentials, but many have exhibited in professional art galleries from North Carolina to New York City to Australia. Many have won prizes for their art and have ongoing competitive interests as sculptors, painters, printmakers, and photographers.

The art teachers’ exhibition is intended to show not only the breadth of the teachers’ creative output but to remind the community of the knowledge and expertise they bring to their students daily, and the fact that the teachers motivate their students to graduate and continue their education. What the teachers do in the classroom is important, and their creative life outside of school helps restore and inform what happens in school. Their talent and know-how as art professionals is at the heart of the Nash-Rocky Mount success story.

The Mims Gallery is open to the public free of charge, Monday through Friday,

9-5, and during evening performances at the Dunn Center. Tours for organizations and schools are welcomed. For information, contact the gallery director at eadelman@ncwc.edu, 252-985-5268, or the Dunn Center Box Office, 252-985-5197.
