North Carolina Wesleyan College welcomes Dr. James F. Traer as Interim Vice President of Academic Affairs and Dean of the College

Rocky Mount, N.C.—Dr. Traer is an experienced administrator whose accomplishments and recognitions are both numerous and impressive, he has served as president of two colleges: Westminster College in Fulton, Missouri, for seven years, and Kendall College in Evanston, Illinois, for two years. He served as Dean at Lynchburg College (Virginia) for eight years, and was Vice President for Academic Affairs at Adrian College (Michigan).

As a European history scholar, Dr. Traer taught for 10 years at Hamilton College (New York), where he also was associate dean.

Dr. Traer earned his bachelor’s degree at the College of Wooster and his master’s and Ph.D. at the University of Michigan – Ann Arbor. He also holds a J.D. degree from the University of Michigan Law School. He is the author of Marriage and Family in Eighteenth Century France, plus numerous articles and reviews.

He and his wife, Maribeth K. Traer, have three adult children and enjoy travel, world politics, French culture and cuisine, vocal music, and church participation.
