Rocky Mount, N.C.—Dr. Barbara Perry-Sheldon, professor of education and director of teacher education at North Carolina Wesleyan College, has been elected president of the North Carolina Reading Association (NCRA) for 2005-2006.

The NCRA is an organization of about 2,800 educators interested in reading education. It sponsors an annual state conference which next year will meet March 1-3 in Winston Salem, N.C.

Perry-Sheldon is also first vice-president of the North Carolina chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, a professional society for women educators, and serves on the board of the North Carolina Association of Colleges of Teacher Education. She participates in professional activities worldwide and has given presentations in China, Australia, Canada, Puerto Rico, and over 30 states.

Perry-Sheldon has been at Wesleyan since 1985.
