June 23, 2005 North Carolina Wesleyan College Promotes Vann Newkirk To Vice President of Institutional Research and Planning Rocky Mount, N.C.Vann Newkirk, Associate Vice President of Institutional Research and Planning at North Carolina Wesleyan College since 2000, has been promoted to Vice President of Institutional Research and Planning. He will play an even greater role in research and strategic planning than in the past and will work closely with Wesleyans Deans Office and various College constituencies. Newkirk also recently received a prestigious Distinguished Alumni Award from the National Association For Equal Opportunity In Higher Education at its National Leadership Summit on Blacks in Higher Education, held in Washington, D.C., last May. Newkirk earned his bachelors degree in sociology at Barber-Scotia College, his masters in history at Winthrop University, his masters in library science from North Carolina Central University, and his Ph.D. in history at Howard University. He has received many awards for his scholarship and service, including the Distinguished NAACP Scholar Award in 1999. He has gained experience in academia at Saint Pauls College in Lawrenceville, Virginia; Edward Waters College in Jacksonville, Florida; Barber-Scotia College in Concord, N.C.; Rowan-Cabarrus Community College; and Montreat College in Black Mountain, N.C. ### |
