New eBay Shopping Plan Can Help You and Wesleyan

Rocky Mount, N.C.—Would you like to get cash for your unwanted items, perhaps something from your attic or garage, and have part of your profit go to North Carolina Wesleyan College as a tax-deductible donation?

Would you like to buy something online, get a good deal, and have part of your purchase price go to Wesleyan as a gift from you?

Or perhaps you would like to donate something to Wesleyan as a gift-in-kind and allow Wesleyan to gain from the sale of your gift.

All of these ways to help Wesleyan are now possible through a marketing arrangement with eBay and MissionFish.

How eBay and MissionFish can help Wesleyan

You may know of eBay, the Internet marketplace where goods and services in thousands of categories are sold worldwide through fixed-price or auction formats. MissionFish is an online service that works with eBay to offer eBay Giving Works. This online tool at www.ebay.com/givingworks enables buyers and sellers to support registered nonprofit organizations when items are traded on eBay on Wesleyan’s behalf.

At the initiative of the Development Office, North Carolina Wesleyan College is now registered with MissionFish as a nonprofit organization. This means that the College is eligible to benefit when items are traded on eBay. North Carolina Wesleyan is one of the first colleges in the country to register with MissionFish.

How a seller can help Wesleyan

When a seller decides to list an item on eBay, he or she registers free with MissionFish (www.missionfish.org). The seller decides what percentage of the final value will be donated to Wesleyan ($10 minimum donation), and the sale item is submitted to Wesleyan for approval. When it is approved, the item is offered for sale on eBay.

When the item is sold, the buyer pays the seller, who ships the item to the buyer, as usual.

MissionFish collects the donation, pays Wesleyan, and provides a tax receipt to the seller.

How a buyer can help

You may learn whether eBay currently offers any items that will benefit Wesleyan by searching for "North Carolina Wesleyan College" on www.ebay.com.

Help with a gift-in-kind to Wesleyan

You may simply give an item of value directly to Wesleyan and let the College sell the item through MissionFish/eBay on your behalf. The profits will be used to benefit Wesleyan, and you will receive a tax receipt. To initiate this process, contact the Development Office at 252-985-5266.

For general questions, please refer to www.ebay.com and www.missionfish.com, or you may call the Development Office at 252-985-5266.
