March 29, 2005 New Paintings by Kiki Farish at Wesleyan Colleges Mims Gallery Rocky Mount, N.C.Artist Kiki Farish will exhibit a suite of new paintings titled "Seen and Unseen: Images of North Carolina Produce" at the Mims Gallery at North Carolina Wesleyan College. The exhibit opens with a reception for the artist and a chance to meet and talk with her beginning at 7 p.m. Friday, April 8, in the Mims Gallery in the Dunn Center. All Mims Gallery receptions are free, open to the public, and offer refreshments. The paintings in this exhibition are meant to raise visibility of the Hispanic migrants who work seasonally in our state and are a vital part of our agricultural economy. The artist cites how, if we doubled their pay, the increase might mean $4 more a year to us as consumers. Farish worked through the Episcopal Farm-workers Ministry in Newton Grove, NC, to gain access to farm-workers whose portraits she has painted for this exhibition. The exhibition was funded in part by the North Carolina Council of the Arts. Kiki Farish has been painting professionally and giving private lessons in Rocky Mount for a decade. Her work is seen in regional exhibits and the Via Cappuccino Coffee House in Rocky Mount. She is currently working on her Master of Fine Arts in Painting at East Carolina University. The Mims Gallery is open Monday through Friday, 9 -5. Tours are welcomed. Call 252-985-5268 for information. ### |
