N.C. Wesleyan College Celebrates 48th Founders' Day October 21st

Rocky Mount, N.C.—North Carolina Wesleyan College will celebrate its establishment 48 years ago, in 1956, at a Founders’ Day Convocation on Thursday, October 21, at 11 a.m. in Minges Auditorium of the Dunn Center for the Performing Arts. The event is free and the public is encouraged to attend.

Keynote speaker will be Dr. Paul L. Leeland, a 1971 Wesleyan graduate who is assistant to the bishop and director of ministerial relations for the Raleigh area of the Southeastern Jurisdiction of The United Methodist Church. Leeland’s career has included service to churches at Elon College, Raleigh, Kinston, and Sanford. He is an ordained elder of the North Carolina Annual Conference, has been a delegate to the Southeastern Jurisdictional Conference and the General Conference, and has served on the Conference Board of Pensions, Council on Finance and Administration, and the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry Board.

Wesleyan’s Convocation, one of the highlights of the College’s fall semester, follows tradition by including a procession of faculty members in colorful academic regalia.

Service awards will be presented to faculty and staff, and the recipient of the Algernon Sydney Sullivan Award, the College’s highest honor given to a citizen of the community for contributions to the College and the region, will also be announced. In addition, new members will be selected for Omicron Delta Kappa, a national honorary leadership and scholarship society.

N.C. Wesleyan is an independent, four-year, liberal arts college affiliated with The United Methodist Church. The College offers bachelor’s degrees in 21 majors on the main campus in Rocky Mount. An Adult Degree Program designed to help working adults finish their bachelor’s degrees is available on the Rocky Mount campus and in Goldsboro and the Triangle.
