Homecoming Set For October 8-9

Rocky Mount, N.C.—North Carolina Wesleyan College will hold its annual Homecoming Weekend on Friday, October 8, and Saturday, October 9. This year’s homecoming will be the first ever to include a football game, when Wesleyan’s Battling Bishops take on the Patriots of George Mason University at 2 p.m. at Rocky Mount’s City Stadium.

Alumni events will begin Friday afternoon with a golf tournament at Tarboro’s Cotton Valley Golf Links.

At 7 p.m., the College will dedicate its new recreation center. During the ceremony, the facility will be named, and several spaces within the building will also be dedicated to individuals.

The dedication will be followed by a bonfire and pep rally and a homecoming dance on campus.

Saturday’s events will begin at 8 a.m. with a 5K run on and near the campus. Registration for the run, which is open to the public, will begin at 7:30 a.m. on the day of the event in the lobby of Wesleyan’s Everett Gymnasium. Wesleyan chemistry professor Dr. Rodney Austin is in charge of the run.

The Bishops men’s soccer team, recently ranked No. 21 in the NSCAA/Adidas Division III poll, will play at home Saturday against Shenandoah University at

11 a.m. Other activities will include alumni baseball and softball games on campus Saturday morning, activities for children, and a reception for alumni at the home of President Ian Newbould and Carla Newbould.

An alumni picnic will take place on campus before Saturday’s football game.

Following the game, several of Wesleyan’s outstanding alumni will be inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame at 6:30 p.m. in the new recreation center.

To conclude the weekend, The Impressions will perform at 8 p.m. Saturday at the Dunn Center for the Performing Arts in a concert that is open to the public. The Impressions, famous for hits such as "Gypsy Woman" and "It’s All Right," were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1991.
