November 19, 2003 Field House, Recreation Center, Football Field Underway
The recreation center will be an 11,650-square-foot addition to the north side of Everett Gymnasium, the side next to the Hartness Student Center. The new facility will include a fitness center for students, a multipurpose room, a hall of fame and conference room, athletic offices, and facilities for exercise science classes. The field house is being built in the area adjacent to the soccer field, near the baseball and softball outfields. The structure will include a weight room, a training room, locker facilities for outdoor sports, and new offices for coaches. July is the targeted completion date for both facilities.
T-shirts with the slogan "Wesleyan Football Still Undefeated," hats, and other NCWC sports items are available in the College Store (telephone 252-985-5175 to order). Wesleyan is proud and grateful that construction of its new facilities has been made possible through the generosity of alumni, trustees, and community supporters.

Wesleyans field house and recreation center project
began taking shape in early November 2003, as crews moved in with heavy
equipment. The official groundbreaking took place on October 17, with many
of Wesleyans trustees participating.
Construction of the football practice field, located
beyond the softball field, near the corner of Bishop and Fenner roads, is
showing good progress. Work began last summer with installation of an
irrigation system, soil improvement and fumigation, and grass sprigging. A
chain link fence was installed around the site in October, and grass on
the playing field was mowed for the first time. The field now awaits
goalposts and a few other exciting reminders that Wesleyan football games
will begin in the fall of 2004.
