Rocky Mount Photographer Exhibits at

North Carolina Wesleyan College

Rocky Mount, N.C.—Allen Hinnant, by day a senior credit risk manager at RBC Centura, and otherwise an artist with a 35 mm camera, will exhibit his photographs from November 7 through December 14 in the Mims Gallery at North Carolina Wesleyan College’s Dunn Center for the Performing Arts. Hinnant’s exhibit will open on Friday, November 7, at 7 p.m. in the Mims Gallery with a reception and an informal gallery talk that is free and open to the public.

The exhibit reflects Hinnant’s eclectic photography interests. He works mostly in color but also explores black and white and digital techniques. With subjects from nature, up-close and panoramic to extreme close-ups of carousel horses, Hinnant’s passion for color is evident. He has an eye for color spectacle that he sometimes finds in even the most ordinary things, such as exhibited in his photograph of beached canoes. His artistry matches the best photographic technique with what his particular subject matter calls for.

Hinnant began 35 mm photography as a hobby while in service in Germany in 1968 and spent many hours learning in the darkroom with a master German instructor.

He remained active with his hobby until the late 1970s, when other interests peaked. In 1997, he began photographing tobacco barns and other rural scenes and in 1999 attended nature photographer Rod Plank’s workshop in Michigan and a digital photography workshop in Arcadia National Park in Maine. He exhibited his work in November 1998 at the Rocky Mount Arts Center and later at the Nash County Cultural Arts Center.

The Mims Gallery is open Monday - Friday, 9 - 5. For information, call

252-985-5268.
