October 16, 2002 North Carolina Wesleyan Alumnus and Trustee Establishes Scholarship Rocky Mount, N.C.P. Kevin Kilroy, a 1976 graduate of North Carolina Wesleyan College and a Wesleyan trustee, has established a generous new scholarship for Wesleyan students with financial need. "The Jane E. Clements Memorial Scholarship honors an exceptional woman whose kindness and financial aid enabled me to go to Wesleyan," Kilroy said. "In 1972, I was a young man about to graduate from high school who had no idea what to do with his life. I needed guidance, mentoring, and an education, but I had no idea where I could go to find the help I needed. Thankfully, Jane Clements, a single mother of six and the mother of one of my best friends in high school, provided strong guidance that insured that I would have an excellent education." Kilroy came to Wesleyan from a small rural town on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, majored in political studies, played soccer, and was an honor student while working his way through college. After graduation, he initiated a series of successful ventures in computer technology and became CEO and chairman of Bluestone Software, Inc., a company that he took public and which was subsequently acquired by Hewlett-Packard Corporation in a strategic merger. Kilroy is currently a general partner with Baker Capital in New York. He joined Wesleyans board of trustees last fall and serves as chairman of the trustees development committee. Wesleyan president Dr. Ian Newbould said, "We are delighted that Mr. Kilroy has chosen to honor his benefactor by enabling other deserving students to attend Wesleyan. His generous gift will make a difference in the lives of generations of students." North Carolina Wesleyan College is an independent, four-year liberal arts college for men and women, founded in 1956 and affiliated with The United Methodist Church. The College offers bachelors degrees in 21 majors. A popular Adult Degree Program that helps adults finish their bachelors degrees in several disciplines is available at the Rocky Mount campus and at instructional branches in Raleigh, Research Triangle Park, and Goldsboro. # # # |
