August 23, 2002 Day for Wesleyan Preliminary Activities Underway Rocky Mount, N.C.Plans for the 21st Annual Day for Wesleyan got underway August 13, when more than 50 members of the executive committee for the fundraising event met at North Carolina Wesleyan Colleges Dunn Center for the Performing Arts. The committee includes community and business leaders from Nash and Edgecombe counties, who are led this year by co-chairs Charles T. Lane, a Rocky Mount attorney, and his wife, Annie Gray Calhoun Lane. Doretha Chichester, information specialist at Wesleyan, will lead this years staff appeal on campus. Day for Wesleyan will be held Tuesday, September 24. On that day, more than 100 volunteers will visit some 1,200 local businesses and individuals in Rocky Mount and in Nash and Edgecombe counties to ask for their support for Wesleyan. Proceeds from the day will go to the colleges Annual Fund, which supports ongoing basic operating expenses such as scholarships to qualified students in need of financial assistance, library resources, teaching materials, and computers. Last years Day for Wesleyan raised over $333,000. Wesleyan hopes that this years contributions will reflect an even greater generosity, which will enable the college to continue to increase in quality and provide additional financial support for deserving students. As in past years, Day for Wesleyan will begin with a kickoff buffet breakfast for volunteers in the lobby of the Dunn Center. The grand total of contributions and pledges for Day for Wesleyan will be announced on the evening of September 24 at a celebration hosted by Wesleyan president Dr. Ian Newbould and Mrs. Carla Newbould at their home on the College campus. Members of the Rocky Mount Area Chamber of Commerce will join members of the Wesleyan community as they conclude the days activities. # # # |
