N.C. Wesleyan College To Hold Commencement On May 11

Rocky Mount, N.C.—North Carolina Wesleyan College will hold its 39th Commencement and Baccalaureate programs on May 11. About 250 students are expected to participate in the graduation ceremony, to be held in Minges Auditorium of the Dunn Center for the Performing Arts at 1:30 p.m. Attendance at this year’s events is reserved for students and their guests, since seating capacity is limited.

The scheduled Commencement speaker is John Hope Franklin, professor emeritus of history at Duke University. One of America’s most significant historians of the 20th century, Dr. Franklin is the author and editor of books, essays, and articles, notably From Slavery to Freedom, now in its eighth edition. Professor Franklin is the recipient of numerous awards and honors, including more than 100 honorary degrees from institutions all over the world, and the Presidential Medal of Freedom, awarded by President Bill Clinton in 1995.

Graduation ceremonies will be preceded at 9 a.m. by a baccalaureate service in Leon Russell Chapel on the Wesleyan campus. The baccalaureate message will be given by David A. Jones, Wesleyan professor emeritus of history.
