Rocky Mount Native Exhibits Photos At N.C. Wesleyan’s Mims Gallery

Rocky Mount, N.C.—An exhibition of photographs by Rocky Mount native William Roeder entitled "Around the World in 80 Frames: A Photographic Odyssey" will open at 7 p.m. Friday, February 15, with a reception in the Mims Gallery of North Carolina Wesleyan College’s Dunn Center for the Performing Arts. The reception, which is free and open to the public, will offer guests an opportunity to meet the photographer as well as view his work.

In his world travels, Roeder has collected many images that reveal his fascination with the natural and man-made details of our visual surroundings. The visual beauty of Roeder’s photographs, which are in both black and white and color, invites the viewer to share the artist’s close-up examination of a variety of subjects.

Roeder’s portfolio consists of a wide range of subjects and styles. However, his images of flowers, architecture, and abstractions—photos taken so close to an object that the entire object cannot be seen—provide the most dramatic representations of his main themes: strong color and/or texture, unique viewpoints, and un-staged settings. Roeder is a graduate of Rocky Mount Academy. He attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill on a Morehead Scholarship and received his bachelor of arts degree in 1994. During his career as an investment banker, he was based in London and traveled widely in Europe. Following that experience, he spent six months living and traveling with his wife in her native Tasmania, Australia. Roeder has visited and photographed more than 15 countries.

He and his wife live in Rocky Mount, where she is completing her final year at North Carolina Wesleyan College.

The Mims Gallery is open free of charge to the public Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Club and school tours are welcome. Roeder’s exhibit will continue through March 17. For additional information, phone (252) 985-5268.
