May 10, 2001 Alden Scholarship for Disadvantaged Students Rocky Mount, N.C. - The George I. Alden Trust has given the College a $50,000 three-to-one matching grant to establish the Scholarship Fund for Disadvantaged Students. The College must raise $150,000 to receive the $50,000. The scholarships will be used for general, need based financial aid to economically disadvantaged students. The College has raised $23,000 through the scholarship portion of the Wesleyan 1000 contributions. Wesleyan 1000 is an alumni giving program, which allows a significant contribution of $1000, with payments spread over a three-year period. The contribution is divided three ways to fund scholarships, capital campaign, and the annual fund. This is a tremendous opportunity for the College to create a $200,000 Scholarship Fund for Disadvantaged Students. If we do not make the match we lose the challenge grant of $50,000. If you are interested in designated gift to the scholarship fund, please contact publicrelations@ncwc.edu or (252)985-5146.
