Wesleyan College Appoints New Members to Board of Visitors Rocky Mount, N.C.Three area leaders have accepted four-year appointments to North Carolina Wesleyan Colleges board of visitors. Helen P. Gay, Phillip Boone, and Bill Fentress, of Rocky Mount, will help provide the College with guidance and insight, and will represent the voices of the surrounding region. Gay has served on the Rocky Mount City Council since 1983 and was the first black female elected to the Council. She served as Mayor Pro Tem in 1985, 1993, and 1997. A graduate of Barber-Scotia College, Gay is a leader in professional organizations and civic and church activities. Her professional affiliations include the Carolinas Gateway Partnership, N.C. Energy Policy Council, N.C. Black Elected Municipal Officials, and the International Association of Personnel in Employment Security. She serves on the board of the Rocky Mount Rotary Club and is involved with the Rocky Mount YMCA and numerous other organizations. Gay is an active member and elder of Mt. Pisgah Presbyterian Church of Rocky Mount and has been in the catering business part-time for many years. Boone is a Wesleyan graduate and advocate who has served the College for 12 years on the Alumni Board of Directors, including as vice president and treasurer. He is general manager of operations at First American Carriers (FAC), which provides transportation solutions to food service industries, and is associated with MBM Corporation. He is on the planning board for the Town of Dortches and is a member of Dortches Baptist Church, where he chairs the board of deacons and teaches Sunday school. Fentress is vice president of Wachovia Bank in Rocky Mount. He has worked with Wachovia since 1988 as a personal banker, branch manager, retail banking manager, business banker, and city executive in several eastern North Carolina cities, including Wilson and Ahoskie. He is active in the community as a member of the Rocky Mount Area Chamber of Commerce board of directors and education committee, and as a member of the Rocky Mount Rotary Club. He is on the board of directors of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Nash-Edgecombe Counties and attends First Baptist Church of Rocky Mount. N.C. Wesleyan is an independent, four-year liberal arts college affiliated with the United Methodist Church. The College offers bachelors degrees in 22 majors on the main campus in Rocky Mount. It also offers an Adult Degree Program specially designed to help working adults finish their bachelors degrees in several disciplines on the Rocky Mount campus and at sites in Raleigh, Durham, and Goldsboro. # # # |
