October 17, 2001 Goldsboro Native Named Head of N.C. Wesleyans Goldsboro Program Rocky Mount, N.C.Goldsboro native Dr. Diane Hill Roberts has recently been named director of North Carolina Wesleyan Colleges Goldsboro Adult Degree Program. Roberts fills the position formerly held by Dr. Martha B. Cawley, who has been named executive director of Wesleyans Raleigh Adult Degree Program. Wesleyans Goldsboro Adult Degree Program is headquartered in the historic Wachovia Bank Building, a recently renovated 10-story structure at 139 West Walnut Street in downtown Goldsboro. About 1,000 adult students have graduated from Wesleyan through the Goldsboro site, established nearly 18 years ago. A native of Goldsboro, Roberts is an experienced educator who has held both teaching and administrative positions. Previous employers include Charles B. Aycock High School and Eastern Wayne High School in Wayne County, Wayne Community College, Lenoir Community College, Wilson Technical Community College, N.C. State University, and East Carolina University. Before accepting the leadership position at Wesleyans Goldsboro site, Roberts was director of advising and retention at Barton College in Wilson. Roberts earned her B.S. degree in English at East Carolina University in 1970, her masters in English at East Carolina in 1981, and her Ed.D. in higher education administration at N.C. State University in 1996. She has participated in workshops throughout the state and has published articles, individual poems, a book of poetry entitled Down the Dirt Road, and a biography of C. Felix Harvey III, What Goes Around Comes Around. She has written two texts: The Write Stuff: Writing Research Papers and Critical Analyses, published by Prentice Hall, and The Writing Across the Curriculum Manual, published by Lenoir Community College. Roberts is currently participating in Leadership Wayne County, sponsored by the Wayne County Chamber of Commerce. She has been active in community service organizations, including The Neuse River Keepers, Altrusa, the Salvation Army, and the Community Arts Council. N.C. Wesleyan College is an independent, four-year liberal arts college affiliated with the United Methodist Church. It offers baccalaureate degrees in 22 majors on the main campus in Rocky Mount. At the Goldsboro branch, students may pursue degrees in business administration, computer information systems, justice studies, and psychology, or take courses for personal interest and to upgrade their skills. # # # |
