Futrell-Mauldin Fund Supports Dunn Center Campaign

Rocky Mount, N.C.—The Futrell-Mauldin Community Fund for Greater Rocky Mount recently pledged $20,000 to North Carolina Wesleyan College in support of the College’s Dunn Center for the Performing Arts Endowment Campaign. The fund drive seeks to raise $350,000 to fulfill requirements of a matching challenge grant from the U.S. Department of Education. Successful completion of the challenge grant would establish a $700,000 endowment that would ensure the ongoing stability of the Dunn Center’s operation.

Pictured here, J. Richard Futrell Jr. (second from right), president of the Futrell-Mauldin Fund, presents a pledge to Betsy Strandberg, right, campaign chair, as Robert R. Mauldin, vice president of the fund, and N.C. Wesleyan’s Linda Stallone, vice president of development, meet with them.

The Futrell-Mauldin Community Fund was established by Centura Bank to honor Richard Futrell and Robert Mauldin in appreciation of their many years of service to people in the Rocky Mount area and for their dedication to civic improvement. The mission of the fund is to support endeavors that make a significant and lasting difference in the lives of citizens of Rocky Mount and of Nash and Edgecombe counties.

The Futrell-Mauldin Fund is an affiliate of the North Carolina Community Fund, established in 1988 with seed money from North Carolina banks. The N.C. Community Fund is a statewide foundation that seeks gifts from individuals, corporations, and other foundations to build endowments and ensure financial security for non-profit organizations and institutions throughout the state.

The Dunn Center for the Performing Arts, a part of North Carolina Wesleyan College, serves the community by providing cultural and entertainment opportunities to some 20,000 citizens, students, and children each year. The Center hosts civic events and is home to the Tar River Philharmonic Orchestra and Chorus. Some 8,000 schoolchildren attend Youth Series events there each year.

N.C. Wesleyan is an independent, four-year liberal arts college affiliated with the United Methodist Church. The College offers bachelor’s degrees in 22 majors on the main campus in Rocky Mount. It also offers an Adult Degree Program geared to help working adults finish their bachelor’s degrees in several disciplines on the Rocky Mount campus and at sites in Raleigh, Durham, and Goldsboro.
