Dyson Is New N.C. Wesleyan Trustee and Alumni Association President

 

Rocky Mount, N.C.—Matthew O. Dyson, director of community funding for United Way of Forsyth County, recently joined N.C. Wesleyan College’s board of trustees. A 1991 graduate of Wesleyan, Dyson is also the newly elected president of Wesleyan’s Alumni Association.

Dyson earned his bachelor’s degree in sociology and cultural anthropology at Wesleyan. As a Wesleyan student, he was active as president of the Interfraternity Council and also as student body president his senior year. Dyson received two master’s degrees, in business administration and health administration, from Pfeiffer University.

In his present position with the United Way, Dyson manages the funding process for 35 non-profit partner agencies that involve over 100 corporate and community volunteers. Prior to joining the United Way in 2000, Dyson served as executive director of Northwest Care Consortium, in Winston-Salem, from 1995 to 1999. He has worked with Total Care of the Carolinas in Kernersville and has served with the Big Brothers/Big Sisters in Hickory. In addition, he and has been a social worker and discharge planner for Wilkes Regional Medical Center in Wilkesboro, and a case manager for the Wilkes County HIV/AIDS Advisory Board in Wilkesboro.

Besides representing alumni matters to Wesleyan’s board of trustees, Dyson will participate in Wesleyan alumni meetings and events around the country.

N.C. Wesleyan College is an independent, four-year liberal arts college affiliated with the United Methodist Church. In addition to its main campus in Rocky Mount, the college offers an adult degree program at sites in Raleigh, Durham, and Goldsboro.
